Obituary of Eugene V. Morris

Eugene V. Morris, 83, of New Egypt passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, July 26, 2015. He was born in Elizabeth to the late Eugene and Alice Morris and married the love of his life, Eileen, in 1951. Gene served in the Air National Guard and was later drafted during the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
After his discharge from the Army, Gene attended Rutgers University where he received his associate’s degree in business management. He worked for many years as an office-credit manager for Cook’s Industrial Lubricants in Linden. He was a member of the New Jersey Credit Association and former chairman of the Metals Group. He and his family later lived in Bridgewater and Glen Gardner.
Gene enjoyed music, painting and building model boats. He was affectionately known by his family as a “worry wart.” He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gene is predeceased by his parents, Eugene Minton Morris and Alice Edna Morris (Engisch).
He leaves behind his adored wife of 64 years, Eileen Morris (Chapin); two sons, Stephen Morris and his wife Linda of Middlesex, and Scott Morris of New Egypt; his daughter Donna Heinrich of Flemington; daughter-in-law Irene Morris of New Egypt; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Mackenzie, Bill, Angie, Brandon, Michael and Jacenia; and his brother Wesley Morris Sr. of St. James City, Fla.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 1PM to 3PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at 3PM. Burial will take place on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 1:30PM at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery. For those who will be attending the burial service we ask that you arrive at 12:45PM on Monday at the funeral home.
