Obituary of Lawrence J. Weerheim

Lawrence J. “Larry” Weerheim, age 86, of Long Beach Township passed away Friday, January 29 at home. Born in Harrison, SD, he was a longtime resident of Bordentown before moving to his house on Long Beach Island full time in 1999.
Larry served in the US Army from 1948 to 1952. He was the former owner of the Central House Restaurant in Jacobstown and he also was the sales manager at Williamsburg Village in Bordentown. Larry was active in Democratic politics and had served as the Burlington County Democratic Party Chairman. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe and liked the Opera and Broadway. Larry was one of eleven children and very proud of his family.
Larry was predeceased by his wife, Claire (Sofchak) Weerheim in May of 2014. He is survived by a son, Gregory L. Weerheim of Long Beach Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Frank Jones of New Egypt and Gretchen Weerheim and Andrew Chattaway of Goshen, NY; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Weerheim and Matthew Chattaway; two brothers, Warren Weerheim of Miami, FL and Deen Weerheim and wife Marilyn of San Diego, CA; a sister, Marge Weerheim of Maine; a sister-in-law, Helen Weerheim of Treadwell, NY and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Larry will be held on Tuesday, February 2 at 9:30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 (www.tilghmanfh.com) with burial to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the funeral home.
Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Larry’s name can be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
