Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen K. “Kay” Hackett, age 96, of North Hanover Twp. passed away Saturday, March 19 at home. Born in Morristown, NY, she grew up in Batavia, NY and was a long time resident of North Hanover. Kay’s talent in art was apparent from an early age. She graduated from Alfred University in New York and was a Ceramic Design Major. Always athletic, Kay enjoyed most sports and participated in skiing, tennis, swimming, basketball, archery and hunting. Kay was hired by Stangl Pottery in Trenton, NJ after graduating college. She was one of their most talented designers, with some of her designs being produced from the 1940’s until Stangl Pottery closed in 1978. During World War II, Kay left Stangl to do her part for the war effort. She worked for General Motors Eastern Aircraft division in Trenton creating exploded line drawings for repair manuals for the Grumman Avenger airplane. Kay went back to work at Stangl in 1948 and continued until 1965 when she joined her husband in their antique business. In the years since 1941, she is credited with designing 40 Stangl dinnerware patterns that were put into production and over 100 miscellaneous novelty and artware items. Hundreds of her Stangl samples were never put into actual production but were sold at the Stangl Flemington Outlet. Many collectors today consider them the most prized of all Stangl products. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Martin S. Hackett in 1982. She is survived by three sons, Jon Patrick McLaughlin, David W. McLaughlin and Martin Hackett; a brother, Kas Kastner of California;two grandchildren, Michael McLaughlin and Susan McLaughlin and four great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial for Kay will be private at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt, NJ (www.tilghmanfh.com).
