You were one of a kind with a huge heart of gold. You went above and beyond for the people you called friends and family. I’ll cherish all the trips you took me on. For taking me to Jamaica for my sister’s wedding. For taking me to Disney World where I felt like a kid again. For taking me to Maine to meet Sister Francis and Brother Arnold and Sister June. For showing me a few different Shaker Villages. The daily texts telling me what National Holiday it was. Which I now continue to look up for you. You meant more to me then I think you knew. God got an Angel the day you left us. You touched many lives and will be dearly missed. Everyday that goes by isn’t the same without you a phone call away. Rest Easy my friend, Love always, Teddi

My wife and I first got to meet Doug up at Sabbath day lake Shaker village 30 years ago where he assisted and volunteered with their special events. Totally dependable and as a matter of fact detailing what needed to be done not missing a beat! We are certain that he finally can be at ease and find peace now. Rest easy my friend

I’m absolutely shocked and saddened to learn of Doug’s passing. We knew one another from our mutual friends and extended family at Shaker Society in New Gloucester, Maine. He was always in attendance, driving up to the Village after a days work, to attend Sister Frances’ birthday celebration. Every year since I can remember until her death. We all became best of friends, Doug always one of my Aunt Fran’s favorite people. I reminded him on Christmas morning, only days ago, how special he was to Aunt Fran and how she loved him so. He thanked me for sharing that. Perhaps it’s no coincidence, Doug passed on my Aunt’s Angel Day, January 2nd. I know she was right with Doug, helping him journey home to eternity with Jesus. Rest in peace my friend. I will remember you fondly, forever. Little Fran

Doug was a very dear friend for over 25 years. He was the kindest, nicest, person ever. He always had a smile and a joke or two. I will miss our texts and calls. Doug always made you feel important. I LOVE listening to his stories. Doug was very smart and caring to everyone he met. I was at Disney with my family and sending Doug pictures of my family. He loved getting pictures. He texted me about losing Debbie. I called from there and we talked. He asked me to call when I got home. But that was too late. I read Debbie’s obit and that’s how I found out he passed. Doug will be so very missed. Doug. Your wings were waiting for you when you got to Heaven. You were a great friend. You will be so missed. Thank you for so many happy memories. Joann Smith

You had a heart of gold and were my rock. I lost myself the day you left, and I know I will find what’s missing when we meet again. I cherish all the vacations and trips you took me on. My favorite is when I dressed up like you for Halloween. And you had the biggest smile on your face when I walked in with my suspenders on and a pen I my pocket, carrying your lunch bag. You took me to Disney World for a week and I felt like a kid again. You took me to Jamaica so I could attend my sister's wedding. We had a blast that week. I’ll Cherish all our memories and think of you daily. You changed my life the day I met you 20 years ago at Walmart. Even distance didn’t tear us apart it kept our bond stronger. Your morning texts will truly be missed. In your honor I will look up every morning to see what National Holiday it is. Which today is National Bird Day! Love you always! Rest Easy my friend!
