Obituary of Douglas R. Tilghman

Douglas R. Tilghman, age 65, of North Hanover passed away Tuesday, January 2 at home. Born in Mt. Holly, he lived most of his life in New Egypt and he spent about 10 years in Portland, Maine before moving back to New Jersey. Doug was a 1976 graduate of Allentown High School. He worked at Bamberger’s Department Store in the Quakerbridge Mall in Lawrenceville for many years before moving to Maine and working at LL Bean for 10 years and then moving back to New Jersey where he worked for Walmart in Hamilton Twp. for over 15 years. Doug enjoyed his many trips to Maine and Lancaster, PA. He would always help organizing trips and events and was very detailed. Doug was a member of the New Egypt Historical Society and a very active member of the Friends of the Shakers in Sabbath Day Lake, Maine. If you were a relative or friend of Doug’s you could count on his text on all the holidays. Doug was a very giving person who will be missed by all. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Ethel (Sever) Tilghman; his step-mother, Mae Tilghman; his sister Wendy Tilghman and his sister, Debra Tilghman who passed away on December 31. Doug is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Mary Ann Tilghman of New Egypt; his sister, Heidi Tilghman of North Hanover Twp.; his sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Charles Redford of North Hanover Twp.; his niece and nephews, Delaney, Chip and Liam Redford of North Hanover Twp., Kyle Emery of Santa Barbara, CA, and Tyler Emery and wife Sarah and their children Luke and Isabella of Marlton and many cousins and friends. A combined memorial service for Doug and Debbie will be held on Saturday, January 13 at 12:00 Noon at New Egypt United Methodist Church – Atkinson Hall, 9 Fort Avenue, New Egypt, NJ 08533. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM until Noon at Atkinson Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doug’s memory can be made to the New Egypt Historical Society, 125 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, NJ 08533. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt.
